💭 Reflection
The month of September is traditionally dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows, inviting us to reflect on the suffering Mary endured throughout the life and Passion of her Son. Mary knew the pain many of us face: uncertainty, loss, fear, and heartbreak. Yet throughout her journey of sorrow, she remained faithful to God. She did not turn away from Him when life became difficult. She stayed close to Jesus, trusted in God’s plan for her and her Son, and allowed her faith to carry her through the heartbreak she did not fully understand.
We all experience seasons of grief. Sometimes the pain we face is visible, while other times it is carried quietly within our hearts. In our moments of loss, illness, family struggles, disappointment, worry for our children, or unanswered prayers, let us follow Mary’s example and remember that sorrow does not mean God has abandoned us.
Mary stood at the foot of the Cross even though she could not change what was happening. She remained present and trusted that God’s plan was still unfolding. We, too, must trust Him when we do not understand or seek answers.
Our Lady of Sorrows understands the ache of a grieving or troubled heart. We can bring our burdens to her and ask her to lead us closer to her Son.
This month, let us also become more aware of the sorrows carried by those around us. May we offer a listening ear, a comforting word, a prayer, or simply our presence. We may not be able to remove someone’s pain, but like Mary, we can choose to remain beside them with compassion and love.
🙏 Prayer
Heavenly Father, during this month dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows, I bring You the burdens and hidden heartaches I carry. Give me the strength to remain faithful when life is difficult and the courage to trust You when I do not understand Your plan.
Bless those who are grieving, those facing illness, those worried about their families, and those quietly carrying struggles known only to You. Surround them with Your comfort and remind them that they are never alone.
Through the intercession of Our Lady of Sorrows, teach me to remain close to Jesus in every season of my life.
Blessed Mother, you stood faithfully at the foot of the Cross. Stand beside me in my moments of sorrow, hold me close beneath your mantle, and lead me to the hope found in your Son.
Amen.
